Tree work in Medowie
Swamp ground on two sides
The NSW SES names two flood catchments for Medowie: Campvale Swamp to the west and Moffats Swamp to the east. Ground near either one holds water, which softens the soil around roots and can leave a stump grinder sitting in mud.
The SES also notes that Moffats Swamp runs through Medowie's State Forest, and the water heading into it threatens the properties alongside. On those blocks the job is timed around a dry spell rather than the calendar.
Lots in the newer parts of the suburb are generous. A rezoning proposal set a minimum lot size of 1500m2 and 2000m2 on parts of one site, which usually leaves room for a truck and chipper, and for a tree to be felled whole where that is safe.

Medowie questions
Bushfire next door and koala plantings
How big is the bushland on the edge of town?
The state conservation area beside Medowie covers an area of 2851ha. During one hazard reduction burn there, the fire had burned through 73 hectares before it was considered under control.
Has fire reached Medowie recently?
Yes. The national parks fire history records a 2026-27 wildfire of about 103 hectares at Medowie. A tree scorched at the base can look healthy in the crown, so burnt trunks near the house are worth having looked at.
What about the koala trees planted in the estates?
One new estate planted 1100 koala feed trees among its plantings. As they grow toward houses they may want light formative pruning, and Port Stephens Council can ask for replacement or compensatory trees where koala feed trees are lost, so its rules are checked first.
