Tree lopping

Height and spread taken off a tree that has outgrown the yard, cut back to branches that can carry the regrowth.

Taken down in sections where there is no room to drop it, every piece lowered past the roof and the fence.

Dead wood out, branches lifted off the roof and the gutters, and the crown opened so the wind passes through.

How it works
From the first message to a written quote
The council question is settled before any price, and nothing is booked until you have said yes to a quote in writing.
- 1
Tell us what the tree is doing
Where it stands, what it hangs over and what you would like done about it.

- 2
A contractor comes to see it
A tree contractor who covers your suburb looks at the tree, the access and what is underneath it.

- 3
The council question is answered
Your council, the tree's height and trunk, its distance from the house and the species decide whether a permit or an exemption applies.

- 4
You get it in writing
Scope, timber, stump and date on one page, and nothing is booked until you have said yes.

Questions
Asked before anything is booked
Do I need the council's permission to cut down a tree?
Often, and the rules depend on the council. In the City of Newcastle a tree counts as declared vegetation when it is equal to or greater than 3m in height, unless an exemption applies. In Lake Macquarie a tree application may be needed for a native tree or Araucaria pine species. The permits page sets out each council's exemptions.
Who does the work?
An independent tree contractor. They look at the tree, quote the job and do it, and your agreement is with them. This site takes enquiries and passes them on; nobody here climbs trees.
Will the council take the branches away?
Not from a private yard. The City of Newcastle says it does not pick up green waste cut from trees situated on private property, so cartage is part of most quotes.
Can the stump stay?
Yes. Cutting it low and leaving it costs less than grinding it out, and plenty of people choose that. The quote can price both so you can decide.
