Burns and wildfires around the village
The national parks fire history maps the Scrub Fire Dudley, a 2012-13 wildfire of about 148 hectares. In the December 2025 Redhead fire, pictures show firefighters at Dudley conducting property protection after a southerly change pushed the front north.
Planned burns are part of the picture as well. NPWS and Fire and Rescue NSW set out a hazard reduction burn over approximately seven hectares of Awabakal Nature Reserve near Dudley, keeping the area shut until tree hazards were dealt with.
On a private block the starting point is plain: dead wood, low limbs and anything hanging over the house.

- 2
A contractor comes to see it

Dudley questions
Gully bush and clearing near the house
What kind of bush is Glenrock?
Glenrock State Conservation Area runs from deep gullies to coastal rainforest, beaches and rocky cliffs, with a walking track down to Dudley Beach. Trees on a gully edge often lean out toward the light, which decides how they come down.
Can trees near the house be cleared for fire?
Where a block is in a designated entitlement area, the state's bushfire scheme lets owners clear trees within 10 metres of a home. Check whether it applies first, since the RFS says to check its online tool on the day you are clearing.
Who confirms a block is in the entitlement area?
The owner does, through the RFS online tool. A tree contractor can do the cutting, but the eligibility check is yours.
