Tree pruning and removal for Caves Beach yards near the national park and the beach escarpment.

Tree work in Caves Beach

Forest edge and the coastal walk

The coastal walking track in Wallarah National Park links Caves Beach with the headland just south of Pinny Beach, through a park known for its mix of forest types. Yards on the park side back onto that bush.

Since 2008 a surf club volunteer group has met each month to weed and restore the dune paddocks and escarpment behind the beach. Weeds spread from gardens are much of what they pull out.

How it works

From the first message to a written quote

The council question is settled before any price, and nothing is booked until you have said yes to a quote in writing.

  1. 1

Tell us what the tree is doing

Where it stands, what it hangs over and what you would like done about it.

A young man on the phone in a brick courtyard, looking up at a tall gum in the next yard
  2. 2

A contractor comes to see it

A tree contractor who covers your suburb looks at the tree, the access and what is underneath it.

A narrow brick laneway behind old houses, a leafy tree spreading over the back gates
  3. 3

    The council question is answered

Your council, the tree's height and trunk, its distance from the house and the species decide whether a permit or an exemption applies.

A grey haired man working on a laptop at a kitchen bench, a gum and the sea through the window
  4. 4

    You get it in writing

Scope, timber, stump and date on one page, and nothing is booked until you have said yes.

A tree contractor in fluoro work clothes holding a helmet, talking with a home owner on the footpath outside a brick house with a big gum

Caves Beach questions

Fossils in the cliffs

What are the fossils in the cliffs?

In 2022 erosion and heavy rain exposed fossilised trunks and branches protruding from cliffs near Caves Beach. They are protected rock on public land, not timber.

Can a neighbour's overhanging limbs be cut?

In Lake Macquarie, native branches over the fence can be pruned to the boundary as long as pruning does not exceed 10% of the tree canopy. More than that needs an application.

Where should the cuttings go?

Council says pruning offcuts are green waste for your own bin and should never be thrown back over to the neighbour's side.

Limbs over the fence?

Prune to the boundary properly
